It all started in 2004, as “TheFacebook” where group of friends at college created an innovative new social media platform with the aim of connecting Harvard students through an online community.

It had all started as project, where website membership was only limited by the founders to Harvard student, but later expanded to other colleges in the Boston area. And, later to all universities in the United States and Canada.it’s further extension took by September 2006, to everyone with a valid email address along with an age requirement of being 13 and order.

It’s Predecessor

Named FaceMash, opened in 2003, developed by none other than Mark Zuckerberg; he did its coding, when he was in his second year of college. And, interestingly to attract it was setup as a type of “hot or not” for Harvard students. This website allowed visitors to compare two female student pictures side by side and let them decide who was more attractive. (as we all do well remember this part in his biography movie, it was good strategy at marketing side).

This Facemash website attracted 450 visitors and 22,000 photo-views in its first four hours online.

It was Mark’s passion, cost effective trick to check performance issues. Idea is to do On Settled infrastructure, hence this site was forwarded to several campus group list-servers, but shutdown by Harvard administration in few days.

Eventually, he did faced expulsion with charges like breach of security, violating copyrights and violating individual privacy. Another expansion to website, by creating social security tool. He had started it with sharing art images, each featured with a corresponding comments section, then shared the site with his classmates, and from there people found platform for sharing notes.

October 25, 2010, Rahul Jain (entrepreneur and banker Rahul Jain auctioned off facebook.com, for $ 30,201.

A “Face book” was a student directory featuring photos and basic information.

In 2003, hardvard university only distributing paper sheets and private online directories.

In 2004, Mark began writing code for “theFacebook”, and inspiration coming from and editorial in the crimson about the facemash.

He took initiative to chasing Harvard student Eduardo Saverin and each of them agreed to invest $1000 in the site.

And, here comes launch of thefacebook.com. But, you see this was not an end, it was first step to it. Vision was to create a universal website that could connect people from the university. And, opening was boom boom, within twenty-four hours, we had somewhere between twelve hundred and fifteen hundred registrants.

With one step of success, problem was knocking to his door. His Harvard seniors, Cameron Winklevoss, Tyler Winklevoss and Divya narendra accused him, of intentionally misleading them into believing that he would help them build a social network called hardvardconnection.com, but instead using their idea to build a competing product.

By December 2005, Facebook had 6 million users, later twenty one universities in United Kingdom and others around the world.

Late in 2007, 1,00,000 business pages, allowing companies to attract potential customers and tell about themselves. After that, Facebook page was planned.

In October 2008, setup its international headquarters in Dublin, Ireland.

2010, another business strategic move to gain business, to create hype. Announced, recruitment by passing question and answer based selection process, and set of puzzles.

February 2011, Facebook becomes the largest online photo sharing host. As cited by Facebook application and online photo aggregator pixable, as expecting to have 100 billion photos by summer 2011.

October 2011, over 350 million users accessed Facebook through their mobile phones, I.e. 33% of all Facebook traffic.

March 2012, another law suit by yahoo, for sake of its patent rights.

But, anything or whatever came, made him unstoppable.

April 24 2014, Facebook and story full announced a feature called FB Newswire.

Facebook messenger rooms, is another tool allows user to do text messages, voice and video calls. It has proved to bring such maturity to its features and up gradations.

And, during this moment of coved-19, epidemic, where each of us are bound to sit inside our house. Forcing us to work from home and maintain social distancing.

Another, benchmark to the business model been introduced, Facebook messenger rooms launched supports 50 people video calls.

This is an expanded version of the video calling feature of the Facebook messenger. But, video calls on Facebook messenger was limited in iterms of people who can join and everyone need Facebook account.

It allows user even who don’t have Facebook account. The person who creates messenger room will have a link generated which can be shared and used to join the room.

Big push, No time limit to video call, AR Effects and new features like immersive backgrounds and mood lightening. Best, control remains with owner of the room. Invitation and ejection control remains with room owner.

For Facebook members, rooms can be used in our existing Facebook groups isn’t that exciting.

Launch, in selective countries, as end-to-end encryption to video calls of large amount of people, is challenging.

And, most critical, Facebook don’t listens to calls.
